More than 60 groups are calling for participation in the <strong>\"Diada per la Llengua\"<\/strong> to join forces in defense of the <a href=\"https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Katalanische_Sprache\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"Learn more about Catalan on Wikipedia\">Catalan<\/a> against the language policy measures of the conservative government of the Balearic Islands.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"\u00a9 https:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Katalanische_Sprache\" src=\"https:\/\/isla-travel.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/linguistikkarte_europa_katalan.gif\" alt=\"Development of the Romance languages on the Iberian Peninsula in the course of the Reconquista in the 2000 years after the birth of Christ\" width=\"403\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-25961419\" \/>The current tension has its roots in the efforts of the right-wing party Vox, which is not directly represented in the government but whose support is crucial for the governing majority of the People's Party (PP). Vox is pushing for a reduction of Catalan in public administration and education. A major demonstration is planned for Sunday in Palma, and since Wednesday a torch has been symbolically carried from place to place as part of the \"Correllengua\".<\/p>\n<h2>The historical dimension of the conflict<\/h2>\n<p>The dispute over Catalan is deeply rooted and regularly flares up under both conservative and left-wing governments.
