For most people, the idea of drones in the sky conjures up thoughts of futuristic technology and surveillance. But in Santany\u00ed on Mallorca, this technology could soon be saving lives - and in a particularly charming way. In September, a pilot project will be launched here to show whether drones can be a valuable aid for lifeguards. These little helpers from the air could establish the saving connection between the beach and the water in dicey situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The drone that talks - and can do even more<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday (27.8.), the latest achievement was unveiled in the idyllic bay of Cala Santany\u00ed: a drone that not only flies, but also speaks. \"Stay calm, the lifeguards are already on their way,\" echoes reassuringly across the beach when an emergency is reported. This is not just any drone, but a state-of-the-art device that impresses with its capabilities. Equipped with two life jackets, which it can drop if necessary, and a communication system that gives instructions directly to those affected, this drone could soon play an important role in preventing swimming accidents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Six kilometers of coastline in view - ready for use in seconds<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The drone can fly up to three kilometers in each direction, allowing it to monitor a total coastline of six kilometers. It is ready for use in just ten seconds and can withstand both wind and water. Such drones have already been in use in the Valencia region since 2017 and support the emergency services in 25 municipalities - now it's time to test this technology on Mallorca too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A pilot project with great potential<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

September will show whether the drone in Santany\u00ed produces the desired results. But the mayor of Santany\u00ed, Maria Pons, is already convinced that this project is a big step towards greater safety on the island's beaches. If the test is successful, these drones could soon be a familiar sight on other stretches of Mallorca's coastline - and thus a measure of safety for locals and holidaymakers alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
