Today, the scent of sun cream and the sea breeze waft towards you, but not so long ago there were just a few fishing boats bobbing off the coast. Then came the 1960sand, as with so many things in Mallorca, everything began to change. Tourism came, saw and conquered.

©Gunnar Eberlein

A quiet start: fishermen, resin and lots of silence

Before the first tourists rolled out their beach towels, the locals made a living here from the Fishing and the Pine resinwhich they call "Peguera", i.e. Oven resininspired. A bit poetic, isn't it? But already in the 1950s and 60s it became clear that the charm of the town would be more than just an insider tip for fishermen. And so the first hotels were built - and with them came what Paguera is today: Sun, sand and lots of visitors.

The trick with the sand: Peguera gets chic

Peguera made history as the first town in Mallorca to have a artificial sand bay indulged. Yes, the sand came from somewhere else, but who cares when it's so soft underfoot? The Promenadewhich 1996 was opened, then also connected the three beaches Playa Palmira, Playa Torà and Playa Romana and finally turned Paguera into a modern vacation resort. From then on it was clear: no foot would stay dry here.

Little Germany: Where German is the new national language

They say you hear more in Peguera German as Spanish. This is because the German tourists discovered their love for this place early on - and they didn't just come to stay for a short time. Many bought their piece of paradise here. Restaurants, stores and hotels have adapted to this, and so the nickname "Small Germany" naturalized in Peguera.

Peguera today: sun, sport and always a smile

Even though tourism is booming in Peguera, the town still has its original charm not lost. The Promenadeflanked by Cafés and Boutiquesinvites you to take a relaxing stroll - whether summer or winter. Those who long for adventure will find it in the Hiking trails and Cycle routesthat run through the surrounding hills. Peguera has somehow managed to maintain a balance between tourism and tradition. And that is exactly what makes this place so special.

isla Reading tip:

Mallorca's most beautiful beaches: where does all this beauty come from?

Peguera: from fishing village to modern vacation stronghold.
