When you step through the medieval town gate, you'll feel it immediately: this town isn't just old, it has a history that you can literally breathe in with every step you take on the cobbled streets. Yes, Alcúdia is a place that takes its time to tell you its secrets - but you have to be prepared to listen.

©Dimitrii

Alcúdia beach: a paradise for sun worshippers

But Alcúdia would not be complete without its breathtaking Beach. Only a few minutes away from the old town, the Playa de Alcúdiaone of the longest and most beautiful beaches in Mallorca. With its fine, white sand and crystal-clear, shallow water, it is the perfect destination for families and sun worshippers. Here you can start the day with a long walk along the shore or simply sit down in one of the cozy beach cafés and enjoy the view of the azure blue sea.

The beach is particularly popular with families, as the water is shallow and ideal for children to splash around in. Those who prefer a bit of peace and quiet will find it in the shady Pine groves behind the beach is the perfect retreat to enjoy nature and recover from the hustle and bustle of the city.

In the footsteps of the Romans and kings

Before you dive into the narrow streets of the old town, it's worth taking a quick look at the Roman ruins of Pollentiaright outside the city gates. Did you know that this was once the Capital of Mallorca was? The Romans already knew how important the location was - overlooking two bays, the bay of Alcúdia and the bay of Pollensa. The remains of the town give you an idea of how impressive this place must have been in the past.

But now it's time to delve into the winding alleyways of the old town. Sandstone houses with green shutterssmall Cafés and Bistros and it is almost impossible not to stop and take a quick look at the ornate details of the old buildings. And don't forget to look up - the Church of Sant Jaume with its neo-Gothic façade towers over the city and offers a wonderful photo opportunity.

©Georg Bale

Markets, charm and a touch of magic

If you visit Alcúdia on a Sunday or Tuesday you are in luck: The Weekly market brings fresh fruit, handmade souvenirs and a colorful mix of people to the old town. A little tip: take your time to browse through the stalls and perhaps find a little souvenir to take home.

And when the day draws to a close and the Sandstone facades of the old town are bathed in golden light, sit down in one of the cozy cafés and watch the city slowly come to rest. There is probably no better place to end the evening with a glass of Mallorcan wine while the last rays of sun dance over the city walls.

The city wall and the perfect view

One of the best ways to explore Alcúdia is from above. Yes, that's right - climb the City wall! From here you not only have a wonderful view of the old town, but also of the surrounding countryside. You can see the Bay of Pollensawhere Kitesurfer their colorful sails through the air, and in the distance the Cap de Formentorwhich glows bright orange at sunset.

Between the sea and the mountains

Alcúdia not only has a beautiful old town to offer, but is also ideally located between the sea and the mountains.
