Barbara Eden, the iconic actress of the US series "The Enchanting Jeannie", not only charmed her fans during a rare public appearance in Mallorca, but also showed her commitment to a good cause. The now 92-year-old actress took part in a donation check handover in front of Palma Cathedral, reports isla Magazine.
Together with celebrity estate agent Marcel Remus, Eden presented a cheque to the "Lichtblick Seniorenhilfe e.V." foundation, which supports senior citizens who have fallen into poverty. The event, hosted by RTL icon Frauke Ludowig, gave Eden the opportunity to share her admiration for Mallorca and her philanthropic endeavors.
"It's my first time on this beautiful island, I really like it and I've already experienced a lot in the past few days," Eden told isla magazine. When asked about her beauty secret, Eden replied with a smile: "I go to the hairdresser regularly, even here on Mallorca."
The actress, who lived in a bottle as Jeannie in the series, responded humorously to the question of whether she would allow herself to be locked in her bottle again: "Of course, Jeannie is over 2000 years old, so you're bound by tradition. Besides, I'd really done a great job with the bottle."
But behind the humor lies a serious concern. Eden is passionate about helping older people living in poverty. "I think it's wonderful that they are being helped in Europe with initiatives like 'Lichtblick'. The social safety net here is much tighter than in the United States," says Eden. She hopes that her involvement will help to raise awareness of the needs of older people and mobilize support for them.
Barbara Eden's visit to Mallorca shows that her magic continues to work many decades after her most famous role. She remains an inspirational figure who wins hearts both on screen and in real life.
