Christmas on Mallorca - sounds like mulled wine and snowflakes, right? Not quite. Here on the island, traditions, magical lights and Mediterranean flair combine to create a very special celebration. Anyone who has experienced it knows that Christmas time on Mallorca is something very special.

Festive lights and Mallorcan mulled wine

Palma is transformed into a sea of lights at the end of November. The Passeig des Born shines with thousands of lights - and yes, it's almost as if Palma has decided to take the stars from the sky and hang them in the streets. What could be better than enjoying a drink under this luminous canopy? vi calentthe Mallorcan mulled wine, and to enjoy it through the Christmas markets to stroll around?

Traditions that touch

On December 24, when the midnight bells ring, the Mallorcans flock to the Missa del Gall - the midnight mass. In the majestic cathedral La Seu in Palma, traditional songs are sung that warm the heart. The moment when the candles light up and the songs echo through the church is unforgettable. Christmas is not just celebrated here - it is lived.

And then there's the festive meal: The classic Sopa de Nadala hearty noodle soup that is simply perfect on cold December evenings. Served with a glass of Mallorcan red wine - this is what Christmas on the island feels like.

New Year's Eve - a grape ritual and fireworks

If you're in the mood for more festive fun after the magic of Christmas, the New Year's Eve on Mallorca is just the thing. And when you arrive on December 31 at the Palma Town Hall Square the new year, there is one thing you should not forget: the twelve grapes! Each grape symbolizes a month of the coming year, and the Mallorcans have turned it into a true art form to eat them in time with the midnight bells. If you're too slow or miss the grapes, you'll not only face bad luck - but perhaps also a few puzzled looks from the locals!

And then the sky lights up: a Fireworksthat bathes the entire square in a sparkling sea of color. It's loud, it's colorful and it's simply magical.

Festa de l'Estandart - A celebration of history

As soon as New Year's Eve is over, the December 31 the next spectacle: the Festa de l'Estandart. A festival that goes far back into the history of the island and commemorates the reconquest of Palma by King Jaume I in the year 1229. Palma celebrates itself - with a magnificent parade, music and a Fireworkswhich also dispels the last of the darkness. It is a celebration that shows how deeply rooted traditions are in Mallorca and that closes the winter with an explosion of color and history.
