On Sunday, May 12, the picturesque setting of Bodega Macia Batle on Mallorca will become the stage for an extraordinary musical event. The winery invites you to a matinee devoted entirely to chamber music. The works of Ludwig van Beethoven, Walter Rabel and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart are brought to life in this intimate setting, played by renowned artists.
Classical compositions reinterpreted
The highlight of the program is Beethoven's Piano Trio op. 11, known as the "Gassenhauer Trio". This work reflects Beethoven's revolutionary spirit, which challenged the musical world in 1801 with novel harmonies and unconventional instrumentation. Instead of the usual violin, Beethoven chose the clarinet to give the composition a fresh timbre. The trio is famous for its finale, which takes up a popular melody from Joseph Weigl's opera "L'amor marinaro", proof of Beethoven's skill in skillfully weaving popular melodies into his compositions.
In addition to Beethoven, the work of Walter Rabel, a lesser-known but fascinating composer, will be presented. His Clarinet Quartet, which will captivate listeners thanks to its late Romantic style and the delicate timbres of the clarinet, won a prestigious competition in 1896 and received support from Johannes Brahms. This quartet marks the high point of Rabel's compositional career before he devoted himself entirely to conducting and singing.
The program is rounded off by Mozart's Violin Sonata in G major, K. 301, performed by violinist Nina Heidenreich and pianist Christine David. This sonata, which Mozart described as an "accompanied piano sonata", illustrates his tireless inventiveness and his deep understanding of both instruments, allowing them to perform on an equal footing and in constant dialog with each other.
