Who would have thought that after all the security processes and waiting times in the departure area, Mallorca would now offer us a real surprise? From Wednesday, November 6, everything will be different: no more detours via escalators and elevators, no more frantic rummaging in your hand luggage for your laptop and shampoo. From now on, the new, modern security checkpoint will be located directly on the same floor as the check-in counters - you may be skeptical, but Tomás Melgar, the airport director, is serious.

New security concept - or just a PR highlight?

It will initially start with nine scanners and 18 belts, and as soon as winter arrives, there will be 44 baggage belts and 22 body scanners in the hall. That sounds impressive. After all, who hasn't experienced the long queues at the old security belts? Now everything should go faster - thanks to the latest technology. The new "Explosive Detection System for Cabin Baggage" (EDS CB for short) takes care of the screening. Liquids and laptops can remain in the baggage. A real blessing? Let's wait and see.

Automatic trays and easier routes: Mallorca's airport becomes more comfortable

The innovations make even the skeptical frequent flyer curious. An automatic system transports the trays back to the start without staff having to struggle. Tomás Melgar promises: "With the new technology, passengers and airport staff can travel and work more relaxed." A nice thought, but we all know that technical promises are often put to the test at the airport. Nevertheless, the convenience will be greater and for most people, rummaging through their luggage will probably remain history in the future.

Conversions for the winter and faster routes

The airport is also being rebuilt away from the security checkpoint. The gates in Terminal A are being expanded, and new connections in Terminal D will make waiting and transferring easier. What does this mean for Terminal C? German passengers can expect detours to baggage reclaim - a short route through Terminal D will become a necessity. In any case, the renovations should create more space and shorter routes by the summer, so that Mallorca can deliver the comfort that the island promises us.
