Gigayacht "Katara" impresses again in the bay of Palma
It is a familiar sight, but one that loses none of its fascination: The Gigayacht "Katara" of the former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, was back in the Bay of Palma. With their 124 meters long the "Katara" is one of the largest and most impressive yachts in the world and, according to the portal "SuperYachtFan" 14th place on the list of the longest yachts.

The "Katara" was honored in 2010 in the renowned Lürssen shipyard built in northern Germany, a name that stands for exclusive yacht manufacturing. The ship offers space for 28 guests and a Crew of 60 people and is expected to have a value of around 400 million US dollars have. The annual Maintenance costs amount to around 40 million dollars - a sum that only hints at the level of luxury that this yacht offers. With a Top speed of 20 knots (around 27 km/h), the "Katara" is not only big, but also fast.
Discreet luxury and modern design
The interior design of the Norwegian design studio Espen Øino little is known about the design of the yacht, which is not unusual in the world of superyachts. However, photos show that the "Katara" has a Helipad an indispensable feature for fast and luxurious transfers. It is likely that the yacht will also have all the usual amenities such as Fitness studio, swimming pool and Spa that can be expected on a yacht of this size.
An unforgettable incident and continuous presence on Mallorca
The "Katara" has not only experienced quiet days in its history. In 2016, a fire broke out in the engine room while the yacht was moored off Porto Montenegro. Thanks to the quick reaction of the crew, the fire was extinguished within 15 minutes. After this incident, the yacht was brought back to the Lürssen shipyard for a general overhaul.
The "Katara" has been visiting Mallorca regularly since at least 2014 and was last seen in the bay of Palma at the beginning of June. It remains unclear whether the 72-year-old owner, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, is on board himself during this visit. What is certain, however, is that the Qatari royal family has a special fondness for Mallorca. The yacht "Al Lusail" of the current Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thaniis a regular guest off the island.
The fascination of gigayachts: A magnet for the island
