This Sunday, November 17, the tranquil village of Llubí in the heart of Mallorca will be transformed into a paradise for honey lovers. The annual Fira de la Mel, the honey fair, attracts visitors from near and far to celebrate the diversity of local beekeeping.
A centuries-old tradition
Beekeeping has a long tradition in Llubí, dating back to the Middle Ages. As early as the 13th century, after the Christian reconquest of Mallorca, the region became known for its agricultural produce, including honey. The favorable climatic conditions and the diverse flora of the area provided ideal conditions for beekeeping. Over the centuries, Llubí developed into an important beekeeping center on the island. Today, this tradition is celebrated with the annual "Fira de la Mel", which highlights the importance of honey for the local culture and economy.
A festival all about the bee
From 10 a.m., the stands open their doors and offer an impressive selection of honey varieties, from delicate orange blossom honey to strong rosemary honey. But the fair offers more than just sweet delicacies: Visitors can discover handmade products such as candles made from beeswax, natural cosmetics and traditional sweets. There are also demonstrations on honey extraction and informative workshops on the importance of bees for our ecosystem.
Culinary delights: Sobrassada with honey
A special highlight of the Fira de la Mel is the opportunity to try the traditional Mallorcan sobrassada in combination with honey. This spreadable, spicy raw sausage is refined with sweet honey - a typical Mallorcan specialty that perfectly showcases the variety of flavours of the island's cuisine.
Supporting program for the whole family
The Fira de la Mel is not just a market, but an experience for the whole family. There are special activities for the little ones, including craft workshops and bee-themed games. Musical performances by local artists provide entertainment throughout the day and add to the festive atmosphere.
Arrival and parking facilities
Llubí is easily accessible by car or public transportation. Additional parking is available during the fair and it is recommended to arrive early to enjoy the day to the fullest.
