Horst Lichter's dream route on Mallorca - a journey full of encounters and discoveries

Attention: Spoiler! 🙂

It begins with a hint of nostalgia and the smell of freshly baked ensaimadas: Horst Lichter meets the charming Astrid Prinzessin zu Stolberg-Wernigerode in the organic bakery in Palma de Mallorca Forn des Teatre. Together they try the traditional Mallorcan specialty and share memories. The recipe for this airy, sweet delicacy? Of course we have it for you linked here.

The first day in the island's capital takes Horst through Palma's historic old town. From the majestic Palacio Real de La Almudainaa witness to royal history, to the Mimbrería Vidalone of the oldest basket makers' stores in the city, you can feel the soul of Mallorca in every step.

On the second day, Horst saddles up his motorcycle and rides along the coastal road to Port d'Andratxwhere he marvels at the glamorous marina before heading into the dreamy alleyways of Valldemossa immerse yourself. The Carthusian monastery is reminiscent of a winter full of music and literature - Chopin and George Sand would certainly have been delighted with this charming visitor.

But Horst wouldn't be Horst if he didn't want to get to know the people behind the scenes. In Consell he visits Joan Campins, a fourth-generation cutler. The workshop, filled with the sound of sharpened blades and the passion of a craft that has been passed down from generation to generation, is a quiet highlight of the trip. More about the Campins cutlery here.

On Puig de Magdalena he meets Astrid Princess zu Stolberg-Wernigerode again. Together they enjoy a picnic and the view, which stretches so far that it makes you forget the cares of the world for a moment. It is one of those moments that lingers in the memory.

Another little adventure takes them to Esther Schweins' horse ranch. The two of them chat about Esther's life on the island before heading to the legendary Es Verger where you can enjoy the "best shoulder of lamb in Mallorca". You can find out more about Es Verger here.

On the third day, things get nostalgic: together with Esther, Horst takes the historic streetcar to Port de Sóllerwhere they meet an old friend, Philippe. In his barbershop bar, they not only trim Horst's beard, but also swap stories. Later, they sail in the bay and Esther opens her heart:
about her traumatic experiences during the 2004 tsunami in Sri Lanka and how Mallorca helped her to come to terms with what she had experienced. It is these conversations that make Horst's journey more than just a tourist itinerary - they tell of healing, friendship and the power of the island.

The next stage takes you through the impressive Tramuntana mountains up to Sa Calobrawhere Horst meets the 2011 world champion in stone slinging, Juan José Caballero. Between stories about this archaic tradition, which was once used for hunting, Juan shows Horst how much skill and precision this art requires.

In the artists' village Pollençawhich is not the cultural capital of the island for nothing, Horst climbs the 365 steps to Calvary. Once at the top, time seems to stand still. One look back down into the valley and you understand why so many artists find their muse here. Together with Sasha, the German musician, and his wife Julia Röntgen, he visits the Castell de Manresa - the site of their wedding - and later strolls through the market in Pollença with Sasha. In the brasserie and Pinseria 8 they fortify themselves with delicious coffee and chat from the sewing box of a pop star of the 90s. Click here for Pinseria 8.

Another stop in Campanet leads Horst to the Fundación Vida Silvestrea foundation that works to protect endangered vulture species such as the black vulture. The commitment to these majestic birds not only impresses Horst, but also shows another side of the island: its deep connection with nature. Information about Fundación Vida Silvestre and to Greenpeace here.

On Mirador de es Colomerhigh above the cliffs in the north of the island, Horst Lichter's journey comes to an end. With a view over the turquoise sea and the dramatic cliffs of the Tramuntana, this moment is used to pause for a moment. It is not just an end, but also a beginning - a reminder of what really counts.

"Mallorca not only showed me its beauty on this trip, but also revealed its soul," says Horst. The encounters with the people, the stories full of passion and the courage to preserve traditions have touched him deeply.

He looks back on the last few days with humility and gratitude. "This island has shown me once again that it is often the simple things that move us the most: an honest conversation, a smile, a piece of history that lives on in a small store."

Horst Lichter says goodbye to Mallorca with a smile and a touch of melancholy - for this time. Because as he says: "You never leave this island completely. It remains a part of you, wherever you are."

This year was our first time on malle. Unfortunately, we only saw cala millor, can picaforrt and alcudia.
We prefer it natural, which is why this program was a successful contribution.

Beautiful... many thanks for that! We would love to visit one or two of the hotspots Horst Lichter visited on our next trip. The lamb shoulder also looked really fantastic. Unfortunately, you can't see anywhere where the individual stops were. It would be wonderful if you could let us know!
Many thanks in advance and we are already looking forward to Horst Lichter's next trip!
