In Llucmajor, an idyllic place on Mallorca, the Energy Challenge once again proved how education and commitment can go hand in hand to raise awareness of environmental protection. More than 400 students from the municipality gathered in Plaça Major de s'Arenal to take part in this inspiring event, which taught them about the importance of alternative energies and sustainable practices.
A celebration of learning and discovery
The Energy Challenge in Llucmajor is not just an event, but a living classroom in the open air. 5th and 6th grade students from different schools in the municipality were able to participate in interactive stations run by local institutions and organizations. The children pedaled on static bikes to generate electricity and listened to an expert talk about sustainable mobility. The variety of workshops ranged from energy and recycling to exploring the marine habitat.
Mayor Xisca Lascolas emphasized the city's ongoing commitment to environmental education, which has become a tradition for the third year in a row. "This year we have extended participation to schoolchildren from the entire municipality and are offering the program in an important and lively area such as the Arenal," she explained.
Workshops that inspire
The event tents offered a wide range of activities that raised awareness of environmental issues:
- Ministry of the Environment: The focus here was on energy generation. Children learned the basics of energy generation and its importance for environmental protection.
- Entorno Urbano: In this area, games were offered on the subject of recycling, which taught important practices in a playful way.
- Ecovidrio: Here, everything revolved around the recycling of glass, where children learned how glass is recycled through interactive activities.
- Majorca NetaThis stand was dedicated to preserving the natural wealth of the municipality and showed the children how important it is to protect the local flora and fauna.
- Ambit EnergíaSpecializing in efficient mobility, this tent offered insights into environmentally friendly means of transport.
- Club Nàutic s'ArenalHere the children were given an insight into the state of the seabed and the importance of its conservation.
The event ended with a refreshment area where the young participants could fortify themselves with fresh fruit and water, a symbolic end to a day that nourished both the body and the mind.
