At the beginning, things looked anything but rosy for the 26-year-old German. After the 1.9-kilometer swim course Hug was well behind - more than a minute behind the leading group. Also on the 90 kilometer long bike course it seemed that the gap would be almost impossible to make up. He arrived in the transition zone two minutes late. But then he showed his strength: Hug showed real fighting spirit on the half marathon course. With long, powerful strides, he left his competitors behind and crossed the finish line after 3:44.24 hours was the first to cross the finish line.

The Paseo de la Peguerawhich became a race track at this event, shook to the cheers of the spectators as Hug pulled out the decisive lead. 33 seconds later the Briton followed him Jack Hutchensclosely followed by the Serb Ognjen Stojanovicwho secured third place.

Women in focus: Alanis Siffert shines

The tension was also palpable in the women's race. The Swiss Alanis Siffert was already considered the favorite in the run-up to the race and did not disappoint her fans. However, the race got off to a bumpy start for her too: two minutes behind on the swim. However, the 22-year-old was not impressed and used her strength on the bike and run. After a total of 4:10 hours she crossed the finish line far ahead of the competition - a full 19 minutes faster than the German triathlete Anne Reischmannwho came second. Third place went to the Swede Lisa Nordenwho was able to stand up to Siffert for a long time.

A celebration for sports enthusiasts - and for Mallorca

The Challenge Peguera has long since made a name for itself, not only as a sporting competition, but also as a cultural event on Mallorca. It is a day on which the island shows its most active side.
