An impressive demonstration of young energy and environmental awareness has taken place in the municipality of Santanyí, located on the picturesque east coast of Mallorca. As part of the eMallorca Experience, more than 360 schoolchildren took part in an energy challenge aimed at raising awareness of sustainability and environmentally friendly energy sources.
The venue was a large marquee in the parking lot of the local youth center. Six bicycles were set up there, not only for physical exercise, but also to generate electricity. The pupils sat on the bikes and began to produce energy by pedaling. Monitors attached to the bikes showed the amount of energy generated in real time, as well as other relevant data such as the distance covered and the heart rate of the participants.
This innovative initiative was accompanied by a series of workshops and lectures on topics such as sustainable mobility and renewable energy. A mobility expert informed the young people about new sustainable means of transport, while workshops on renewable energies were held in another room of the youth center.
The Energy Challenge is part of a larger competition that aims to generate sustainable electricity through the use of energy produced by static bicycles during their installation in the community. This competition will take place until June in various towns such as Inca, Capdepera and Ses Salines.
The mayor of Santanyí, Maria Pons, was delighted with the high level of participation and commitment of the younger generation: "It is an important event for our municipality and it is encouraging to see how committed our young people are. The energy produced is converted into euros and enables us to support other sustainable projects in our town."
Llorenç Galmés, President of the Island Council, also emphasized the importance of the initiative: "It is crucial that we inform the public about technological advances in the field of sustainability and involve young people in these processes."
The aim of the "eMallorca Experience" is to promote sustainable development by protecting the environment, promoting renewable energy and introducing electromobility. Such initiatives will not only make Mallorca's communities more energy efficient, but also set an example for sustainable action worldwide.
